The Ideal Day - About Laura Patterson

Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, Laura was raised by parents who were big supporters of the arts, always encouraging Laura and her brother to express themselves creatively. It came as no surprise then when Laura decided to head for the bright lights of New York City and enroll in Columbia University. True to her roots, she graduated with a double major in theatre and Jewish history.

After graduation, Laura lived the life of a New York actress, auditioning by day and cater-waiter-ing by night. She worked at fabulous parties at the New York Zoo, the Met, even one soiree where Pavarotti broke out into song. As she worked behind the scenes, Laura began to realize that maybe she wasn’t meant to be an actress. Maybe she was meant to be a director, coordinating the backstage of an event and choreographing a show that would wow her clients and the audience of guests alike.

After spending 8 years planning events for some of Chicago’s top caterers (Food For Thought and Marcello’s), learning the ins and outs of the local event planning scene, The Ideal Day was born.

Laura has coordinated weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, anniversary celebrations and corporate events, too. She has worked in many of Chicago’s premiere venues and has long standing relationships with vendors of all price points.

Laura lives in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood with her husband and leading man Joel. Their wedding was part drama (a Jewish wedding in smalltown Georgia) and part comedy (the bride rolled into her reception wearing rollerskates). She loves to run and bike on the lakefront path and on the rare weekend off, you will likely find Laura enjoying herself by shopping, going to hear live music or eating in the newest neighborhood restaurant.
